An "Alternative Front End" is a proxy site that displays content from another website like Youtube, twitter and Reddit. Alt-Front ends will typically have all the tracking scripts and a large chunk of the "web bloat" removed and do not depend on Java Script being enabled(Unless you're loading videos), thus using less bandwidth and system resources to visit the page. The main down side to using alt-front ends is you cannot comment or post anything.

Why would you want to use an alternative front end

• Web tracking scripts are cookies are removed. This also prevents you from being put into a algorithmic bubble

• Shared IP address. Anyone who uses the proxy site will have the IP of the proxy server.

• By passes Geo restricted content and age restrictions
• An alternitive to using a VPN

Invidious is an Alt-Front end end for Youtube. Its very minimal and loads fast compared to the normal Youtube website. It also allows for account creation on the individual instance to subscribe and follow channels indirectly. It also has support for RSS. Invidious is also add free so you don't need to use an ad blocker to block Youtube adds. Some invidious instances allow you to direct download videos as well.

The only down side is that it will directly pull the video you are watching (from Youtube, thus revealing your IP, though the meta data being gathered is very minimal). However you can play the videos through the proxy by adding &local=true at the end of the URL to the video, or use the script monkey add on to do it automatically. Some invidious instances also but limits on the quality of videos that are being played, typically limiting them to 720p.

Teddit is a simple front end alternative for Teddit, it does not need java-script to run(if you want to play videos you need it enabled) has no adds no tracking either. Its best suited for viewing as you can not post or comment on anything.
